Cocoa farmers are often forced to sell their fresh cocoa beans to private companies, large local cocoa brokers, and cooperatives quickly and at suboptimal prices because they don’t have the know-how to ferment the beans by themselves
This short instructional video, developed for smallholder cocoa farmers in East Africa, explains how farmers can ferment their freshly harvested beans at home using just two woven bamboo baskets, some banana leaves, and 6 days of time!
The video explains this process in a step-by-step manner.
With this new skill, cocoa farmers can store their fermented and dried cocoa beans and sell them when the price is right!
The video is available in Swahili and English.
